Objective:

Design a destination resort for families that is integrated with RV sites and villas and is in close proximity to Denver and Colorado Springs.

Project Goals

Sun Resorts wanted a destination resort in Larkspur, Colorado that incorporated the full “Jellystone program”—a set of values and characteristics shared by the 75+ Jellystone locations across North America. These include signature experiences such as water parks and activities, outdoor attractions such as mini golf and outdoor theaters, and indoor activities such as escape rooms and recreational spaces. Connecting visitors to nature was key.

Challenges We Overcame

The client’s desire for multiple water activities paired with the site’s Rocky Mountain location meant a meticulous water strategy that accounted for supplemental irrigation would be needed. RVi was able to develop a comprehensive water strategy with support from Atwell that included a pumping and distribution system for the irrigation, considering the environment and end-user enjoyment. Due to the site’s high elevation and ecology, landscape design and wildfire mitigation were challenges, but RVi’s experts were able to select plants that mimicked native plant communities and distribute them in a way that promoted fire-wise principles in the landscape. The client wanted high-end resort amenities that offered access to the majestic scenery of the area, so the RVi team created thoughtful layouts that aligned with the diversity of experiences offered and incorporated intentional connections to nature.

Outcome

The resort receives consistent, positive reviews and referrals and has a continued stream of strong demand with repeat customers and positive visitor sentiments. RVi worked closely with the client to determine the optimal balance of amenities, segmentation of products, customer services, and connections to nature to form a high level, extraordinary guest experience.
